A squad car showed up in about 15 minutes and Lonnie right after.   Before closing the door, I leaned over to say goodbye.  She wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed me gently on the cheek.  Fighting against a host of emotions I listened.
“Roman, I’m sorry I shouldn’t have I…”
“It’s ok, really.”
“I never meant to hurt you Roman Lee.  I was drunk and it was an error there was nothing ever invested with him.”
I shut the door watching them drive off to a safe house. Lonnie and I headed downtown.  Another person in trouble and more use of department resources.  I was starting to run out of room to put people.  We needed this asshole caught or killed.
